The Italian government is trying to quarantine the right to strike
during the coronavirus epidemic
TUI PS Europe of WFTU, denounces the attempt to silence the workers of Italy who fight to protect their health and life.According to USB, the so-called "Strike Rights Guarantee Committee" (Cgsse) is launching a legal action against it on March 25th. Cgsse cites a number of rules violated by the federation and therefore seeks financial penalties. It also states that the announcement of a strike in the midst of a pandemic contributes to creating a widespread climate of insecurity and innumerable damage to the community as well as to businesses. It also committed itself to laws even more restrictive on the right to strike.
However, the strike was declared precisely because there was this "widespread feeling of insecurity" among the workers, but that came from government measures that essentially allowed big businesses to continue their operations.
After all, the wide spread of coronavirus in the industrially developed north of Italy is due to the continued operation of large companies.
TUI PS Europe of WFTU, expresses its support and solidarity with the tested people of Italy. We welcome the workers and in particular the doctors and all the health and social workers for the tremendous fight they are making to protect the health of the people of Italy.
We express our solidarity with USB and the great fight it gives to defend the lives and health of Italian workers and condemn any persecution of workers and trade unions who fight.
We call all unions to express their solidarity to USB and the workers of Italy
