On September 14, a meeting of the TUI PS Europe was held via zoom with the participation of organizations from 9 countries (South Africa, Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Turkish Cyprus). The general secretary of TUI PS cd. Zola Sapetha also participated and addressed a speech in the meeting.
The work was good and the situation in Europe was described. It is a common conclusion that we need to get out on the streets. Already mobilizations have been announced in a number of countries (General strike in Greece - strike in France - mobilizations in Cyprus, in Portugal, in Italy).
The following actions were decided at the meeting:
- To make a joint announcement of our trade unions about the situation prevailing in Europe with the accuracy of basic consumption goods, the increase of inflation throughout Europe. To demand real increases in our salaries. With this announcement we must go to the workplaces and talk with the workers.
- To create a joint poster with the above theme.
- Mass participation in the day of action on October 3 for the 77th anniversary since the establishment of the WFTU on issues related to poverty, accuracy, Collective Agreements etc.
- Day of action against privatization in mid-October. We should go with as much massive processes as possible, general assemblies, workplace rallies and to hold as many events in as many places as possible.
- We intensify our struggle against repression, both state and employer repression. Terrorism, the attacks by the repressive forces, the massive presence of police forces and other mechanisms. The latest events in Italy, Greece and other European countries.
- We continue our solidarity with the peoples of Cuba, Palestine, Venezuela.
The participants of the meeting concluded that we focus our work on monitoring developments and the action of the trade unions in Europe. Our main concern is to build a solid contact of European public sector workers' unions. To have vibrant, fighting unions, defenders of workers, at the front line of the struggle against capitalist exploitation.
We can and must strengthen the WFTU and TUI PS in Europe.
