“FIGHTING FOR THE SURVIVAL OF THE WORKING CLASS AND A MORE HUMANE WORLD”.
On this day, the
international May Day celebrations, the TUI-PS&A joins the millions
of its members and workers in general spread over many countries in all
continents as they celebrate the gains, contributions
and struggles of successive generations of workers in the broader
working class struggles and the sustenance of their respective
societies.
Under capitalist barbarism those responsible for the production of the needs of society, the workers, struggle daily to meet their own needs as the product of their labour is expropriated for profit. It has become abundantly clear that almost in all corners of the world, the money workers earn as wages is not sufficient to meet their needs and to subsist on. This challenge confronting workers today is as old as capitalism itself and cannot be resolved by the system that perpetuates it in order to survive.
The deteriorating living conditions of the working people under capitalism is directly linked to the survival and self-perpetuation of the capitalist system. The division of the world into a wealthy core represented by the most developed imperialist countries and a poor periphery represented by the most marginalised and poor countries is not an accident of history. It is how the world is carved up and divided among imperialist countries to serve their respective monopolies of the countries that dominate the world.
The geopolitical upheavals and the unfolding wars such as the one provoked by NATO in Ukraine are directly linked to imperialist competition between the bourgeoisies and political elites of different countries at the expense of their respective populations and the world in general. Such wars do not only bring death and suffering that disproportionately affect the working class that is used as cannon fodder, they also divert crucial resources away from urgent social needs to feed the destructive war machine.
Taken together with the successive economic crises, downward pressure on the buying power of workers’ wages it is not surprising that the working class everywhere is confronted by the cost of living crisis. In the midst of all of this, profits are soaring and billionaire elites are getting richer from the suffering of the people.
Our attitude as
workers to the deteriorating conditions should be to strengthen our
class struggle and reiterate our historic interrelated demands for:
• An end to all imperialist wars
• A world free of nuclear weapons
• An end to austerity measures that destroy state provided public services
• Wealth tax ion the rich for a fair redistribution of the wealth generated by society
• Halting the attacks on workers’ wages and pensions
• A stop to the attacks on workers’ organisations and their rights
• Decent quality jobs
• Opposition to privatisation of essential social services
Meeting these
demands, and many others is the only precondition that offers workers a
chance to live decent lives and a peaceful world, and none of them can
be fully met under conditions of capitalism and imperialism.
Our key message as we celebrate the 137th anniversary since the beginning of this historic day, the May Day in 1886 in the United States and Canada is that: Workers of the World Unite, You have nothing to lose but your chains”. Indeed, TUI PS&A confirms the essence of this slogan that all members of the working people and the working class should cooperate to defeat imperialism and capitalism to achieve victory in the class conflict.
Long Live workers’ Power!
Down With Capitalism and Imperialist wars!
