We
express our solidarity with the working class of Portugal, the public and
private sector trade unions, and the CGTP-IN, which on June 3rd are fighting
the battle of the General Strike against the country's government's new anti-labor
"package".
The
so-called "labor package" is nothing more than another blow to the
very lives of workers. It provides for easier and cheaper dismissals, the
extension and greater flexibility of working hours, an attack on wages and
income, the abolition of holiday bonuses, new restrictions on Collective
Bargaining Agreements, and a strike against the right to strike and trade union
activity. From country to country, across the EU, under different pretexts but
with the same goal, governments of all stripes are dismantling rights.
This attack
is directly linked to the war economy and deeper involvement in USA–NATO–EU
rivalries and imperialist wars. At the same time that the people are paying
high prices for basic goods, fuel, and rent, with frozen wages and cuts to
Health, Education, and Social Security, billions are being given for armaments,
military missions, and the war fronts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Governments,
whether they describe themselves as right-wing, social-democratic, liberal, or
"progressive," serve the same path: the profitability of big
business, the competitiveness of capital, and war preparation.
We stand by
the side of the working class of Portugal. Their struggle is our struggle.
Because everywhere, we as workers face the same attack from the same opponent:
business groups, governments, and the EU.
The answer
lies in organizing in trade unions, internationalist solidarity, and conflict
to overturn the policy that sacrifices our lives for the profits of capital and
its wars.
No
sacrifice for profits and imperialist wars!
Strength to
the workers of Portugal!
Long live
the internationalist solidarity of the working class!
